Along with each other, each loves acting.
Both Maphis and Stevens majored in acting at Bergen County Community College -- where they met while performing in "The Importance of Being Earnest" -- before he went on to Montclair State University and she to Ramapo College to continue their studies.
Acting since he was in high school, Maphis always wanted to perform at the Renaissance Faire.
"I started going to the Faire when I was 14 and I really loved it," he said. "I auditioned for three years before I actually got a job as a performer."
That was six years ago.
Maphis has since convinced Stevens to join.
"I actually hadn't been to the faire until my late teens and I loved it, but it never occurred to me to be in it," Stevens said. "Then I started dating Kevin."
As Dash Valor, Maphis performs in the show "Chit Chat with Mother Do Good," the chess games and singing with Rascals and Rogues.
Stevens' character, Belladonna Porcini, is named after a poisonous herb.
"I entertain people throughout the day and throw information about myself, such as being a baker and baking for the queen," Stevens said.
Along with their separate characters, the two also wrote and perform in "The Princess and the Pea" for children.
The Faire runs every weekend through Sept. 27 in Tuxedo Park, N.Y.
